What is your full name?
Fr. Mario Vincent Amore

What is your current Assignment/Parish?
I am Moderator of the In Solidum team of priests leading the Resurget Cineribus Family of Parishes which includes St. Aloysius, Old St. Mary’s, and the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament, all in Detroit. I principally serve downtown at St. Aloysius.

What is the greatest gift about being a priest?
The greatest gift of the priesthood are the people — those that I am privileged to work with and those that I serve.

What would you say to a young man discerning the priesthood?
The priesthood is a life full of beauty, adventure, joy, and some heartache, too. Our own unworthiness is a constant reminder that the goodness of God overflows to us as he calls us to be his co-workers.

How can people at your parish best support you?
I love my parishioners! They best support me not only me by their prayers but also by their willingness to be involved in the building up of our community.

How do you see the Holy Spirit working in the Archdiocese of Detroit?
I see and experience the Holy Spirit calling us to outward focused mission — pushing us outside of our comfort zones and returning to the basics of evangelization!

Describe the first moment you knew God was calling you to the priesthood.
My story doesn’t involve one particular moment. There were, rather, a series of movements of the Holy Spirit beginning as an altar server in elementary school, working in campus ministry in high school, and then getting involved with youth and music ministry as a young adult. All of these moments brought me into deeper discernment and greater love for the Church.

What should all young people know about discerning a vocation?
Be attentive to the movements of your heart in prayer and the encouragement of those around you. In the end, it will involve a leap of faith to “come and see.” Discerning a vocation to the priesthood or religious life will never be time wasted.
